About Asian Institue of Management

In 2002, the Asian Institute of Management contracted Ateneo de Manila University Human Resource Center (now known as the Center for Organization Research and Development) to design a paper-and-pencil self-administered instrument to measure emotional intelligence in Asian managers. After pre-testing and subsequently validating and norming from a sample of more than 700 managers (493 Filipinos, and 232 from 17 Asian countries), the CORD researchers were confident that they had a valid and reliable instrument. Efforts underway to continously improve the instrument's validity and reliability, and even to translate the instrument into various Asian languages.

While predominantly based on the frameworks of Salovey and Mayer, the AIM-EIM assimilates Asian collectivist views. It defines emotional intelligence (Asian construct) as "the ability to process emotional information critical to effective leadership in the Asian context."
